Because of its tenacity, the bulldog is the official symbol of England and unofficial in the United Kingdom. Bulldogs have been widely featured in popular culture. In several cases they are portrayed as bullies; children will say a bulldog looks "tough", but in fact modern bulldogs' temperament is very social and lovable.
